Lonely, unstable gas station attendant Melinda is tired of being overshadowed by her more confident, outgoing co-worker Sheila. When the gas station is held up at gunpoint by Billy, a desperate man in need of quick cash, Melinda finds an opportunity to make a connection with the robber, regardless of who gets hurt.

At the age of ten, Henry James Hermin, a boy who was conceived in a petri-dish and raised by his feminist mother, follows a string of Post-It notes in hopes of finding his biological father.

The story begins when the sun mysteriously doesn’t rise, forcing a blind woman to navigate a dark world to save her son from a pitch-black hellscape. But as humanity descends into madness, she must face something more terrifying than the horrors around her: the truth about her family.
