The two daughters of the fisherman find husbands.

A power plant worker (Garrison) eagerly joins a strike for higher wages. When his young daughter falls severely ill and needs emergency surgery, the strike he helped organize shuts down the city's power grid. The operating room plunges into darkness during the critical procedure. Overcome by the tragedy, the worker is convinced by his wife (Porten) to abandon the strike.

Klara and her father have been alone since her mother died. Her close friend Hans leaves for the military, and on returning as a fine young man, rushes to see Klara. As their families work to keep them apart, their love grows stronger and stronger.

Mr. Mericke is a simple-minded, small-town man from the German provinces at the end of the imperial era. He arrives in the big city and can’t stop marveling: the tranquility and slow pace of his hometown are jarringly contrasted here with the fast-paced rhythm of the global metropolis, which deeply unsettles the visitor.

One of Oskar Messter’s earliest films. An outing with several horse-drawn sleighs and a snowball fight in the Grunewald forest. Also a pair of clowns performing a dance (likely a stage dance).

An ambitious wife spends all of her husband's hard-earned money and then commits suicide out of remorse.

We see the drunkard's wife, whose home has been destroyed by alcohol. They have two children, a girl of 5 years and an infant at the mother's breast, who neither of them can support. The wife leaps off a bridge into a river but is saved by a nearby police officer, who directs her to the welfare center, where the entire family can obtain institutional help. The infant and its mother are nurtured and cared for at the infant shelter. The father is sent to a sanatorium, where he recovers both his physical health and reconciles with God. The older girl is sent to school and thrives. In the end, the family is happy and whole again.
