Thirty-eighth documentary in the "Un film et son époque" series. It retraces the genesis, shooting and unexpected success of "Rosetta", a film by Belgian filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. Palme d'Or winner in 1999, "Rosetta" recounts the daily struggle of a young girl, played by Emilie Dequenne, who lives in a caravan with her alcoholic and depressive mother, struggling from one odd job to the next. All she wants is a normal life.

Once upon a time in 1962, « Lawrence of Arabia », a film by David Lean. Inspired by the life of T.E Lawrence, the film tells the epic story of the British officer who led, between 1916 and 1918, the rebellion of the Bedouin tribes against the Ottoman Empire. When the film is released at the very beginning of the 1960’s, Great-Britain and France are painfully withdrawing from their colonies, as Arab nationalism is experiencing a renaissance around the world. Five years after the French and British humiliating Suez expedition the film remains the proud, nostalgic counterpoint of political events of the 1950's when a British officer was encouraging Arab nationalism.

This is what this documentary aims to show, by going back into the genesis and making of BPM (Beats per Minute), the 2017 Cannes Film Festival's grand prize winner, six times winner of the Cesar award. The film also shows how BPM (Beats per Minute) intertwines autobiographical memories and romantic lyricism, as close as possible to historical reality, and how Act Up was for Robin Campillo the founding personal experience that made him a filmmaker.

Inspired by a case of pedophilia in the diocese of Lyon, "Grâce à Dieu" recounts the struggle of former victims to reveal a scandal suppressed by the Church. This documentary shows how director François Ozon constructed his film between documentary and fiction, and had to shoot it in secret. Melvil Poupaud and Swan Arlaud, who play two of the victims, are interviewed, as are the two founders of the association that led the fight: François Devaux and Alexandre Hezez. Jean-Marc Sauvé, author of a damning report on sexual abuse in the Church, underlines the impact of this film on the evolution of the law and the Church.

The script - a tumultuous relationship between a single mother and his hyperactive and violent son - and the bold direction electrified the audience. Shot in Montreal, the documentary by Tessa Louise Salomé tells the genesis of this family drama. It also reveals the failures of the society in Quebec : the failure of the mental institution and the impoverishment of the middle class.
