A lonely old potter saves the life of a young woman. She is grateful to him, but does not return the love he feels for her. However she feels obligated to marry him. In time, her former boyfriend finds her and takes a job working with the potter until he can convince her to run away with him.

This film concentrates on a group of people who have trouble adjusting to mainstream society. The film deals with three different episodes. The first one deals with a story of an artist and a daughter of a noble scholar; the second about the life of a talented flutist and his love; the third about the story of love between a ceramicist who was commissioned to make a ceramic for the royal family and his wife.
