A young British soldier must find his way back to safety after his unit accidentally abandons him during a riot in the streets of Belfast.

In 1933, Welsh journalist Gareth Jones travels to Ukraine, where he experiences the horrors of a famine. Everywhere he goes he meets henchmen of the Soviet secret service who are determined to prevent news about the catastrophe from getting out. Stalin’s forced collectivisation of agriculture has resulted in misery and ruin—the policy is tantamount to mass murder.

Set in contemporary multicultural London, Tariq is a man rebuilding his life after prison and striving to carve out a new path for himself and his young son, Amine. When his brother pleads for help, Tariq is pulled back into the London criminal underworld and the dangerous orbit of their crime boss mother. This reconnection jeopardizes everything he has built, forcing him to confront his family loyalty and the legacy of violence that has defined his life.
