Not only the three old men who are protecting the empty houses, but also the young guy, a demobilized soldier, aches for him. And why don’t people return to such wonderful places where life is cleaner and healthier than in cities?..

An idealistic high school graduate goes to work on a state farm on the Kyrgyz steppe, only to clash with its authoritarian leader.

A high-mountainous region of Kyrgyzstan. A raging disaster nearly takes the life of a girl named Saltanat, a young zootechnician from a high-mountain collective farm. She is found in the snow and rescued by a researcher Joomart. From him Saltanat learns about plans to turn barren plateaus into abundant pastures. A bold idea fascinates Saltanat. She becomes Joomart's friend and ally in the struggle for the conquest of nature.

Salia, an orphan, immediately after finishing her tenth year leaves her stepmother’s home, which she does not love, to a mining village to live with her uncle. On the road, she meets a handsome young man who works at the same mine as her uncle. Kind and sympathetic Azim helps the girl get a job and enroll in evening preparatory courses at the institute. Salia, completely inexperienced and deprived of human attention, takes simple human participation for something more. She is sure that this is a clear response to her first ardent love. But the young engineer loves Jamila and does not even think about another girl. By chance, having learned about the mutual love of Azim and Jamila, Salia experiences great grief, it seems to her that everyone has betrayed her and she is left alone again...

Although they used to be a couple, time has changed everything for Alym and Salima. Seeing how happy she is without him, Alym realizes he might be a failure.

Amanat, who was abandoned by his mother and grew up with his grandparents after his father's death. Aisulu Akhmatova is a renowned cotton grower, but her rising fame sparks resentment in her husband, who assaults her in the very fields where she works. With her daughter, Aisulu seeks refuge at her parents’ home, only to face judgment from those around her. Determined to rebuild her life, she takes a job at a virgin lands collective farm, where she is appointed brigade leader and entrusted with the daunting task of cultivating a barren, rocky field.

When the war broke out, two brothers—Askhat and Murat—left for the front. Only Askhat returned home. Murat, however, was taken prisoner; he ended up in Germany, where he was recruited into an intelligence school. After the war, he lived in the West. Thirty-five years later, Murat—now an agent for the anti-Soviet émigré community—returned to his native village as a tourist. His former fiancée, Bermet, had married Askhat, and the couple was now raising their grandchildren. Upon learning that Bermet had given birth to a daughter back during the war, Murat realized that both the daughter and the grandchildren were his. Yet, he made no claims to them; instead, he silently accepted the role of a mere observer—and in that capacity, he returned to Munich.

20s south of Kyrgyzstan. Platoon commander Abysh Isaev arrives at the military garrison. His task, together with the red commander Valentin Ugryumov, is to stop the bloodshed and destruction perpetrated by Shaanazar’s Basmach detachment, and to return the farmers to their homes.

The Russian Descendant of the Snow Leopard is based on a famous Kirghizian folktale. Apparently the Kirghizian folks had plenty of time to tell this story: to print a full synopsis would result in a novelette. Essentially, the story involves a proud group of highland hunters called the Snow Leopards, who in order to survive a brutal winter must request help from the Lowland people. The price for this assistance is the hand of the Snow Leopard's daughter, who is promised in marriage to a wealthy Lowland trader. During the Springtime wedding celebration, the trader becomes fascinated by a stranger who wins all the athletic contests. This "male" contestant turns out to be a woman, who has arrived to seek freedom for her imprisoned husband. The subsequent romance between the trader and the beautiful stranger results in disaster and bloodshed for both the Snow Leopards and the Lowlanders.

"Mirages of Love" is a Soviet-Syrian film directed by Tolomush Okeyev about the fate of Mani, a medieval oriental master.

The film is dedicated to the beauty and majesty of its homeland, the traditions of the Kyrgyz people, and the everyday life and work of its people. The story is narrated by an old man who has lived a long life. As if looking back with a thoughtful gaze, he remembers all the cherished moments and beauty he will soon have to leave behind. Yet despite the looming tragedy, there is no sense of pessimism — every memory, every frame shines with a hopeful warmth, like life itself. The old shepherd’s character and spirit, reflected in his eyes, will live on in his grandchildren, preserving both the beauty of the land and the deep love he felt for it.

The forty-year-old commentator, summing up his life and realizing that his well-being is purely external and essentially nothing significant has been done, leaves for his native village, where, he hopes, he will be able to take a step towards his true vocation.

The plot is based on events that took place during the severe drought of the early 1970s at the construction of the Toktogul Hydroelectric Power Station. The commissioning of the station's first phase was complicated by the fact that the water needed to start it was also desperately needed by the parched fields. There were many debates (with both personal and professional ambitions involved), and in the end, the problem was solved purely mathematically—rather than by agricultural engineering: salty water from the Kyrgyz Sea was diverted to the fields, while clean mountain river water was directed to the first turbines.

Longing to discover his father, a sad young boy dreams of becoming a fish and swimming to the great white ship he sees traversing Lake Issyk. Lost in his dreams, and buoyed by the pagan tales of his Central Asian grandfather, he feels a close communion with nature: so much so that when a hunter kills a stag, he too takes a final, liberating leap.

A chronicle of a few days in a small family, a story about the difficulties of human contacts, the complexity of love. The image of red apples - strong and clear, profound and lucid. Okeyev's "apple" bears a special meaning. Juices of the earth and sun, it is a lyrical symbol of happiness and harmony.

After a serious conflict with the editor of a local newspaper, journalist Temir Ataev began working as a teacher at a boarding school for children of shepherds. The first difficulties did not frighten Temir. Captivated by his new work, Ataev was able to win over the children, who were mostly from disadvantaged families, and restore order in the teaching staff.
