Norman Draper, a Texas Ranger sent to round up a band of cattle rustlers, finds Phillip Carlson at the deathbed of his wife and assists him in burying her. Meanwhile, cow thieves are plaguing Marcos Valverde and his daughter Elicia; and Leon Serrano, the local deputy sheriff (actually the leader of the rustlers), realizing the community will demand a victim, arrests Carlson, who has innocently bought a stolen horse from the thieves. Draper rescues him from a lynching party and learns the whereabouts of the rustlers. Leon Serrano is unmasked as the culprit and then is arrested by Draper, who gives his reward to Carlson and is himself rewarded by the love of Elicia.

A portrayal of the conflict between the pioneer cattle ranchers and the newcomer farming homesteaders in the Big Bend region of Texas: The problems for both sides are heightened by cattle rustlers who take advantage of downed fences. While struggling to maintain law and order, Texas Ranger Tom Norton falls in love with New Yorker Eileen Nawn, and the way is cleared for their romance when Tom rounds up the culprits.

Supposedly wealthy, Patricia and Vi Moreland find themselves penniless and dependent upon relatives when their father dies. They accept an uncle's offer to live on his Texas ranch, which is desired by an unscrupulous neighbor, Jim Worth. Young geologist David Brooks (who sells windmills) happens along and persuades the girls to refuse Worth's offer to buy the ranch. Worth has Vi kidnaped, and he gets the upper hand when Brooks rescues her. The geologist turns the tables, however, and Worth does not live to see either Brooks's windmill strike oil or happiness come to Brooks and Patricia.
