19th-century Colombia. Karl and Petronella, a young Swedish couple, sail in search of fortune. The river carries them through desolate lands ravaged by the independence war. Their adventure loses its course, slowly swallowed by a strange and distorted time in which nothing but the reflection of their nostalgia and the ghost of the alienating unknown remains.

Defeated in combat, Ángel returns home to his village in a remote part of the Peruvian Andes. When he arrives, however, he finds the place has completely changed. What was the 18th century is now the present day. What has become of the ideals of the revolution he fought for? The people who live in Peru today, what are they fighting for?
