Everyman Coupeau's attempts to stop drinking are routinely thwarted by the wicked and vengeful Virginie. Based on Zola's novel, Capellani's film is about the free fall of a group of working-class French folk into degradation and tragedy due to carelessness, jealousy, and alcohol abuse. At the time of its release, L'Assommoir was hugely successful.

Charming Mimi-Trottin is in love with typographer Louis Chausson, nicknamed Godasse. She meets Doudou, actually a Vicomte, estranged with his parents who are rich automobile manufacturers. Godasse abandons Mimi because of his professional ambitions and Doudou rescues her from a suicide. After making peace with his parents, the young man has Mimi hired as a typist at the factory. After winning a race with one of his father's car, he soon wins the heart and the hand of Mimi.

Misanthrope Raymond Ferray's life of peace and quiet is disrupted by the arrival of his new neighbors the Rovels. Lady Rovel designs on marrying her daughter Meg to the much older Marquis de Boisgenêt. Her mother agrees not to force her, however, if she can find a suitable alternative. Raymond, who despite himself has taken a great interest in Miss Rovel, helps her to find one.

Abandoned by the father of her child, the begging young mother desperately seeks refuge in a monastery church....

André de Santis, a young French officer, leaves for the war in despair for the cancelling of his marriage to Jeanne de Chazal. Jeanne entered the convent and became Sister Angélique. André, not far from the convent, was mortally wounded. He wrote to Jeanne asking her to come and receive his last breath. But the rule was strict, and Sister Angélique could not leave the convent. However, the statue of the Virgin before which Jeanne was prostrating came to life, descended from its pedestal, and took on the appearance of Sister Angélique, seemingly granting her the permission she had refused. Jeanne then went to close her ex-fiancé's eyes and then returned to the convent, where the Virgin resumed her original form.

Yet another film adaptation of the renown 1874 French play "The Two Orphans" (Les Deux Orphelines) by Adolphe d'Ennery and Eugène Cormon, about two adoptive sisters who are violently separated upon arriving to Paris during the outbreak of the French Revolution.

After supper, two elegant couples descend into a cellar in Les Halles, a haven for criminals and murderers. In this dive, well-known to the nocturnal Parisians, unsettling couples sit at tables over glasses of cheap wine and bowls of mulled wine. The visitors shudder in this atmosphere, but a few well-timed rounds of drinks win them over. A piano begins a waltz, a couple embraces and begins a voluptuous and brutal dance. Suddenly, a brawl breaks out, knives gleam. The police burst in as the panicked visitors flee. But it's all a setup! And the prostitute and the thug return home, having honestly earned their day.

The young hero, Frederick, is leaving his country home and going to the city to attend the bull fight, and while there he meets and woos a beautiful maiden, forgetting his own little sweetheart at home.

Gus is making violent love to his cousin Sue, to whom he is engaged, when all at once, he has a desire to sneeze and finds to his consternation that he is without that very necessary article, a pocket handkerchief. Becoming very much excited in his embarrassment, he begins turning his pockets inside out and getting redder and looking more awkward every minute, until Sue, becoming disenchanted with her foolish looking lover, hastens to greet Arthur, whom she sees approaching. It is plain that the latter is gaining ground with Miss Sue, when all at once he begins to sneeze and is unable also to locate his handkerchief. He forgets that on entering he had laid it with his hat on the table, where Gus was fortunate to find it and owing to which good fortune the latter is able to regain the side of his fiancée, who is now alone, as Arthur, feeling that awful tickling sensation in his nose, had to flee.

M. Rasta, a high society con man, is accused of a crime he didn't commit.

A young English lord, who has been excavating in Egypt, finds a mummy of a beautiful Egyptian princess, more than 5,000 years old. So well has the Egyptian embalmer done his work that the face is perfect in all its beauty, and the susceptible young man falls deeply in love with this belle of old Egypt, takes the mummy home to his estate in England and there it occupies his whole mind, to the exclusion of all else. Even the proposed visit of a beautiful American girl does not arouse his interest.

An amusing story of a forgotten dinner date, a pair of slightly cruel friends, and the unfortunate consequences for one well-meaning man forced to eat three meals in a single evening.

Story set in the Middle Ages. A page and the daughter of a baron want to marry each other against the will of her father, who wants his daughter to marry another man. A sorceress predicts the future for the couple and provides the page with a bottle of poison for the other marriage candidate, which almost falls into the wrong hands.
