Li Cheng'en is a devout Christian. He has always firmly believed that the Lord Jesus will come with the clouds after the great catastrophes and rapture believers into the kingdom of heaven. When he hears people testify that the Lord Jesus has already returned, he finds it hard to accept because he thinks that the great catastrophes haven't arrived yet. But soon after, he discovers through investigating that the great catastrophes prophesied in the Book of Revelation have long since commenced and that the Lord Jesus has secretly descended to appear and work.

After Li Cheng'en accepts Almighty God's work of the last days, he hurries about preaching the gospel everywhere, gaining quite a few people. But then Li begins to exalt and showcase himself; just when he's feeling smug and self-satisfied, the newcomers he gained are misled and disturbed by a pastor, and Li is beaten by religious leaders and nearly freezes to death in the snow. He realizes that this is God's discipline and pruning coming upon him. Through reading God's words, he comes to know that his nature is too arrogant, that he doesn’t have a God-fearing heart, and that he is in dire need of God's judgment, chastisement, chastening, and discipline.
