One day, gnome Plop receives a letter from his uncle Knap. It states that Uncle Knap is very ill and that he can only heal if he drinks the juice of the Carbuncle root, but that root unfortunately only grows in Plop's forest and there isn't enough time left. Klus decides to build a real airship with which the gnomes can fly to Uncle Knap, but the journey is difficult and not without dangers..

It's winter in the gnome forest. Plop, Klus, Kwebbel and Lui are on their way to deliver a letter to gnome Pruts, and arrive in a wonderful laboratory. There they stumble on a special invention; a travel machine. When Pruts has to leave unexpectedly, Klus and Kwebbel try to bring Snorre from the South Pole to them, but the machine doesn't work as it should..

Firegnome Kwiek comes to the gnome forest to visit his great-nephew Lui. Plop, Smal, Klus and Kwebbel are shocked when they see Kwiek, because he looks like an exact copy of Lui. Leo continues to stay in Slovenia because of his ex-wife Tanja and his son Luka, hoping that they can become a family again. When the bank refuses to grant a loan Leo and Vučko would need to renovate their restaurant, they have no choice but to accept an offer from Gianni, a swindler. They are tasked with stealing Gianni’s truck so that he can collect the insurance money. However, instead of stealing Gianni’s truck, Leo and Vučko mistakenly steal a truck full of refugees. Vučko the refugee and Leo the migrant themselves thus inadvertently become responsible for destinies of people similarly unfortunate as they had once been. In order to solve their financial problems, they decide to sell the refugees. At first it seems that they are not indifferent towards these people, but with each passing day there is less and less humanity left in Leo and Vučko.
