Twenty-something Guido lives in a small town in Northern Italy. He has earned the respect of his peers through violence in the racis and macho environment he grew up in. But when she meets Sonia, a Kosovar immigrant, something shifts. Guido finds himself torn between the world that raised him and the one she is opening up for him.

The late 1970s, somewhere in the Mediterranean: Marcos Timoleon, a tycoon, is throwing a lavish, extravagant birthday party for Sofia on his exclusive private island. The party is a perfect excuse for various people in his life to approach him with their own agendas.

Filming on Franco Maresco's film about Carmelo Bene is abruptly halted after yet another on-set accident. Producer Andrea Occhipinti pulls the plug, exasperated by the endless takes and repeated delays. Angered, the director simply disappears. Maresco's friend, Umberto Cantone, attempts to mend the rift by calling witnesses from all those involved in the project, in an investigation that offers an opportunity to retrace the personality and ideas of the most corrosive and apocalyptic auteur in Italian cinema.

Gianni’s world is turned upside down when a film director contacts him after finding a series of his childhood slides at a flea market and decides to make a film about them. As his past comes to life on the screen, the boundaries between truth, memory and fiction become increasingly blurred.
