Margit is cycling from the small guesthouse where she has settled down for her summer vacation to a party at a friend's house, which lives a few kilometers away. Margit is wearing a black dress and looks quite stunning, coming there on a bicycle - but it's necessary, because the landlady has decreed that all her guests must wear black - "it looks so good on her white terrace".

On the way, she meets the charming John. Eva and Harry fall in love and get married. But then Lise announces her arrival in Copenhagen. She has since married John and wants an apartment in Copenhagen.

As a result of various complications, Pat and Patachon are employed as helping hands at the old mill and become good friends with the miller’s widow, Grethe and the apprentice. Doctor Falke takes revenge on Gabriel von Eisenstein because, after a carnival, he left him lying in a park, disguised as a bat, so that he would be ridiculed by respectable citizens the next morning. Falke seizes the opportunity for revenge when Eisenstein gets himself into trouble by being sentenced to ten days in prison for disrespectfully mentioning a princely person. The wealthy Russian Prince Orloffsky has asked Doctor Falke to arrange the entertainment for his grand party – and in this lavish setting, Falke carries out his revenge.

Elsebeth, who works in a small greengrocer's shop, has only two real friends. One is a young bicycle courier, Poul Andersen. The other is a small Icelandic horse that brings fresh vegetables to the shop every morning. She and Poul Andersen spend a lot of time at the youth center.

The two friends, Fy and Bi, come wandering along the country road as so many times before without a destination and - without food. Hunger torments them, and they stop with wide eyes at a bakery truck, whose back door is open and opens the view to sumptuous trays of pastries and mayor's bars. However, they get a long nose and wander on to an old castle, where they seek accommodation for the night. In the castle cellar they open a book - and immediately they are back in the exciting events and deadly battles of the 15th century. And again we are back in the castle cellar, where Fy now with a bang closes the dusty, old book, and the two set out on the country road again.

Manufacturer Mads Juehl, who together with his partner Møller owns the pram factory "Fortuna", is a man with an appreciation for life's many small pleasures. Despite the fact that the company's foundations are gradually becoming unstable, he does not deny himself large personal expenses, and Møller is keen to sell his share in the company. However, his friendly feelings for Juehl keep him tied to the company, and the young clerk, Victor Pethersen, believes that the company now needs to undergo a rejuvenation process.
