Pak Long Akhbar is a shaman who helps the villagers with healing using his spiritual knowledge. His son, Hasbullah, who returns after studying in Egypt, wants his father to stop practicing such superstitious rituals, but his father opposes him, believing that his knowledge is a gift. However, this knowledge eventually backfires, leading to Akhbar becoming possessed.

Qasih marries Danial but Qasih's mother, Mak Melah, disapproves of Danial because he is Chinese. Mak Melah does not treat Danial well. Mak Melah remains silent. Qasih has an accident and dies. Danial returns to the village to take care of Mak Melah because of his promise to Qasih.
