Caiomhe Butterly is one of a growing number of volunteers who risk their own safety to intervene in the long-running and bloody conflict between Israel and Palestine. Several internationals, including her, have now been injured. Some have died. In this film, she describes witnessing the aftermath of the attack on Jenin in April 2002. The film follows her work, the main emphasis being “the accompaniment of communities at risk”. Despite being threatened, shot in the leg and deported later that year, she is determined to go back.

Gaza: A Forever War poster
Movie

A Forever War is a powerful investigation into the war on Gaza, challenging Israel’s response to the Hamas-led attacks in October 2023. Global condemnation of Israel’s war on Gaza recently echoed around the United Nations, where many states continued to label it “genocide”. Yet Israel has largely ignored international opinion, even pressure from the United States. With a ceasefire now on the table just days before the second anniversary of the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, this film examines what Australian journalist John Lyons calls “one of the most brutal wars of modern times”. Lyons confronts Israeli political, military and intelligence figures on their motives and asks whether there was no alternative to killing more than 66,000 Palestinians, including over 20,000 children. A current cabinet member, a former foreign minister, and ex-Prime Minister Ehud Barak argue Israel’s actions are self-defence.

The Legacy of the Shatila Massacre poster
Movie

As Ariel Sharon looks set to become Israel’s new PM, this strong feature revisits the 1982 Shatila massacre and looks at the region’s future under a man with so much blood on his hands. Eyewitnesses and survivors speak publicly of the massacre for the first time, and there is new testimony about the role of Israeli forces under Sharon’s command. As Defense Minister in 1982, Sharon turned a 72-hour operation to remove Palestinian guerrillas from south Lebanon into a three-month invasion. It claimed 20,000 Arab lives and climaxed with the massacre of unarmed Palestinian civilians in the Sabra and Shatila camps.

Impoverished Britain poster
Movie

The loss of minimum wage in Britain has resulted in the gap between the rich and the poor growing hugely. Newtown just outside Birmingham is looking dirty, rundown and old. 50 % of its citizens are unemployed, living in grey towerblocks overlooking the urban devastation. The flats are poorly equipped with basic furnishings. All people can do is watch television. As the rich people get richer, the poor get poorer. Chris Pond from the Low Pay Unit blames poverty and hardship on the Conservative Government's free market economy and their opt-out from the social chapter. Journeyman Pictures investigates the harsh reality of 1990s Britain.

2,000 Terrorists poster
Movie

What will be the legacy of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon? Will he be remembered as a man of peace or a war criminal? In the refugee camps of Lebanon, the shadow of the Sabra and Shatila massacre darkens every day. Here, people regard Sharon as the man who authorised a genocide. Who ordered the Israeli army to surround the camps, let the Christian militias in and did nothing as they massacred thousands of innocent civilians. Our offering this week is the definitive documentary on Sabra and Shatila. It centres on four survivors who spearheaded the campaign to bring Sharon to trial. Includes shocking archive of the massacre.
