"Busch singt" consists of 6 films "About the first part of our century" and does not present Ernst Busch only as a singer but is a film with and about Busch as a chronicler and fighter for communist ideals of his time. Konrad Wolf died during the production, he directed part 3 "1935 oder Das Faß der Pandora" and part 5 "Ein Toter auf Urlaub".

The aircraft mechanic Hans Bertram is an incorrigible apron hunter who boasts that he can get around any woman. He even makes bets on it. But then he falls in love with the new colleague, the budding engineer Helga Nonnert. He fails to conquer them by storm. After many tangles and fun episodes, she manages to heal him of his gallant frivolity.

The 17-year-old commercial student Doris, a young, blameless girl, lives with her relatives without parents. It is the nerve-wracking circumstances that make her very unhappy - the dream and longing for a fulfilled life seems far away. Then she meets a young man who recognizes her situation, takes advantage of it and puts her up as a prostitute in a bar. However, Doris escapes this milieu and works as a nanny in Austria. When the stepson of the house falls in love with her and her past comes to light, disaster strikes.

1982: East German actor Erwin Gregorek travels to Hamburg to shoot screen tests for a film about the sinking of the ocean-liner Cap Arcona in 1945 - a catastrophe he himself survived as a concentration camp prisoner.

She is called Dona Juanita: the attractive young architect Anita Nachtigall, who manages a department on a large construction site with great success. She is said to have had many affairs and, so it is said, the death of a certain Sawallish. The evil afterspeech puts Anita so that she announces her place. But a young safety inspector on the job site doesn't want her to leave. He cares what really happened...

Spain in the 1930s. The film tells of the fight of international troops against General Franco's army. It tells of the fate of three brigadists, the American Gary, the German Hans and the Englishman Joe, who are taken prisoner by Franco's army. Their attitude in this difficult situation is a living example of international solidarity and creates a memorial.

Posing as West German journalists, East German documentary filmmakers Heynowski and Scheumann pay a visit to the notorious Nazi-turned-mercenary Siegfried “Kongo” Müller, pump him with booze, and get him to talk about his life and war campaigns in Africa.

Rome at the time of the persecution of Christians: Androclus, a poor tailor, frees a lion in the forest from terrible pain caused by a thorn in his paw. The two meet again by chance when the devout Christian is about to be thrown to wild animals in the arena. The lion spares him with gratitude, but the real danger for Androklus comes from another direction.

In England in 1553, the marriage of Queen Mary Tudor to the Spanish crown prince Philip II is being considered. It is Simon Renard's task to force the issue. Just as a large payroll transport operation for a major company is being carried out by several employees of London's Celtic Bank, shots suddenly ring out. The man behind the wheel of the car is hit. Then everything happens in a flash and the culprits escape with a large sum of money. The chauffeur had to give his life for 6000 pounds. Scotland Yard, in the form of Inspector Varney, investigates and strongly suspects that the crooks are not professionals. Scotland Yard Inspector Varney is wrong: what initially looks like a simple routine case turns out to be a tough nut to crack. Not least because he has to deal with a great unknown who operates in the background and keeps throwing sticks between the investigator's legs. Who is this man behind the scenes?

Together with Stephan Hermlin, H&S examine two five-minute film documents in this film, which were shot in 1941 on behalf of the Gestapo. The comparison with a written eyewitness account exposes the first film - "about the dazzling supply of food to the Jews" - as a propaganda lie, while the second - made 14 days later - conveys a complex picture of the Nazi extermination bureaucracy.

The young Walter Retzlow, drafted into the guard team of a foreign labor factory in the last year of the war, receives the papers of a murdered anti-fascist by chance. He adopts the new identity, which promises him security.

Uwe is a chemistry student and works as an excavator driver on various construction sites at weekends. One weekend, he meets the nursery nurse Gabi. As it turns out later, they owe their encounter to the daughter of the construction site brigadier Trunzer. But it doesn't stop at this one encounter and the resulting flirtation, as the two fall in love within a very short time. On another weekend, Uwe accompanies Gabi to visit her family. When construction site brigadier Trunzer returns from vacation a few days later, he first asks Uwe where he has been during his absence, to which Uwe replies: "I was in Honolulu - bet?".

A small town in West Germany. Material for an exhibition with documents from the Nazi era was stolen from Herbert Geerts, only the negatives of the photos did not fall into the hands of the perpetrator. Geerts is found murdered and the group of people who were incriminated by the documents are suspects. Detective Weber takes on the case, which turns out to be "a case of fireworks", and follows the trail of a Nazi criminal...

Adventures of a young boy who always gets into various troubles.

The six-part film series tells in impressive stages of the work of important doctors at the internationally renowned Berlin hospital in its medical and contemporary historical scope. The period spans the beginning of the 19th century to the Second World War, bringing the viewer close to the work of great medical professionals: Robert Koch, Ferdinand Sauerbruch, Rudolf Virchow and others. At a farm-equipment plant, production lags at 89 % and a new, untested combine proves a “failure” in the fields. A promising redesign exists, crafted by a transplanted West German engineer, but he’s mistrusted. Meanwhile, workers and the Party secretary blame plant director Berendonck’s poor leadership. As harvest season looms, personnel upheaval and swift action are needed to install the reliable new machine and get production back on track.

In spring 1957 Budapest, former lovers Sándor and Mónika reunite after 16 years at a street‐corner café. Their conversation flashes back to 1941, when Hungary joined WWII under Horthy and eight fresh teacher‐graduates, including Sándor and Mónika, vowed lifelong solidarity. War and shifting politics fracture their bond and force each to choose a path through turbulent decades. The drama echoes the 1956 uprising: participants seeking reform are branded “counter‐revolutionaries,” denounced by steadfast communists like László, who scorns defectors such as Béla for “dishonouring socialism and the people.”

Laboratory technician Jutta and factory worker Peter have been a couple since the summer and are enjoying their time together. One day, Jutta realizes that she might be pregnant. The doctor doesn't want to make a preliminary diagnosis until Monday - and today is Friday. The weekend is a tough test for Jutta. How should she decide - for or against the child, should she get married, should she have an abortion? The encounters with Peter, her parents, her friend with the twins and her colleagues don't make it any easier. In the end, Jutta and Peter have to decide on their own.

It is a fateful moment: during one of his concerts, Jewish pianist Klaus Seiser discovers Gestapo officer Dr. Becker in the audience. He had imprisoned and harassed the young Seiser in 1943 because of a leaflet. Although the musician had managed to escape from prison at the time, he was caught at the Swiss border and Becker had him sent to Dachau concentration camp. Now, years after the end of the Nazi regime, Seiser denounces the Gestapo man and hopes for justice.
