There seems to be no end to the things Paolo can learn from exploring this mountain, which he has chosen as his home for several years now. Sometimes he also feels like a spirit, and Laki, his old dog, becomes his guide. Where will it take him? To paraphrase Suzanne Simard, this film is not about how we can save the mountain. It is about how the mountain could save us.

In July 1961, Italian alpinist Walter Bonatti sets out to conquer Mont Blanc alongside trusted climbing partners Andrea Oggioni and Roberto Gallieni. Referred to at the time as 'the last great problem', the 800-meter (2,600 ft) vertical wall leading to the summit was the last unscaled face of Western Europe’s tallest mountain.

In a remote house situated in the Alps, an old man entertains a young stranger by telling three ancient legends from Aosta Valley. The story of a nymph and her lake. A shepherdess, eager for a celebration. A peasant girl, who has suddenly fallen ill.

Maurice, who emigrated in the early 20th century to France from Parléaz, a small village in the Aosta Valley, returns as a spirit to his mountains, recounting his life and his connection to the land. Meanwhile, the stories and experiences of the local community, from the older to the younger generations, become intertwined.
