L’Heure d’été

Scorching heat in a suburban neighborhood in the South of France. It’s the end-of-year party at the local sports club. Birds are falling from their nests, wildfires are raging, and Kiki remains under the spell of her Bad Star.

Twenty-something Guido lives in a small town in Northern Italy. He has earned the respect of his peers through violence in the racis and macho environment he grew up in. But when she meets Sonia, a Kosovar immigrant, something shifts. Guido finds himself torn between the world that raised him and the one she is opening up for him.

In 2018, a user called AnathematicAnarchist published a suicide note in an online forum for incels – a subculture of heterosexual men whose self-pity, misogyny and fantasies of violence dominate the internet in many places and trigger offline actions in some. Did he really take his own life? Is America responsible for his death, as he claims in his text? A search for clues in the darkest corners of the net, an essay about pain and loneliness in the age of algorithms.
