An affluent man disapproves of his daughter's relationship with a poor aspiring singer. However, her life changes when the boy meets with an accident. The movie is based on a novel of the same name written by Vidyullatha Sasanoor. This was the second movie of Shivarajkumar as a lead hero and is the second of the first three movies of his which completed a silver jubilee theatrical run. The core plot of the movie was later used Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai which was Hrithik Roshan’s debut as a lead hero. The movie was later remade in Tamil language by P Vasu titled as Love Birds that starred Prabhu Deva and Nagma.

The film is about the life of Kannappa, a hunter who becomes a Lord Shiva devotee. This was the 4th movie as a lead actor for Shivarajkumar, directed by the legendary Vijay who is known for classics like Mayura, Gandhada Gudi among others. This was the only movie in which Dr. Rajkumar, his elder son Shivarajkumar and youngest son Puneeth Rajkumar were seen together. Whereas Dr. Rajkumar’s second son Raghavendra Rajkumar was one of the producers to the movie. The movie was also the alternate version of Dr. Rajkumar’s debut movie Bedara Kannappa.

Pavithra (Manjari Phadnis) scribbles sweet nothings on whatever material she finds, including vegetables and shirts. Her love story with Manu Murthy (Ganesh) begins when she scribbles a sweet note on a bus going to a different city and is surprised to get a reply from someone at the other end. Manu, who is a happy-go-lucky guy, finds out that the messages that he gets and exchanges through the bus, are actually written by a girl. They exchange phone numbers in the same way, but the number gets washed off in the rain. Neither therefore knows the other's identity. Meanwhile, Pavithra's parents arrange for her marriage to a rich boy, who turns out to be Manu. They get married but they don't get along well, and decide to divorce. Do Manu and Pavithra get back together and discover their true identities?
