After a year of studying at the Suvorov School, 13-year-old Vovka Kulikov returns to his native Siberian village. Ten-year-old Voiko is brought up by the governor along with other future warriors. One day his older brother Yarun catches a sorcerer for whom a reward is promised. But Voiko accidentally releases him, succumbing to the guys’ provocations. The sorcerer goes into hiding after kidnapping the prince's daughter. The prince blames Yarun for the incident and puts him in prison, promising to execute him in three days if the princess is not found. Voiko has no choice but to follow the sorcerer to save the princess and brother. His faithful friend Mieszko goes with him.
