The girl-muse cuts her hair and braids it into cello strings. She begins playing, and a melody emerges from the chaos of sounds. Flames flow from beneath the girl's fingers, forming a wall of flame behind her. The girl transforms into a butterfly, taking on the color of fire, and flies away into another world, to the moors. A black-and-white etude, imitating graphic art, depicting the fascination with the exuberant rush of a herd of horses. A child (a girl) rides one of the galloping horses. At one point, the horse transforms into a horse-like figure from a music box. Departure reveals a sleeping figure on a table next to the music box. The figure smiles in his sleep, holding a sheaf of the galloping steed's mane in his hand.

At the same time unemployment rates reached record values. In times of crisis, when people sought spirituality, seemingly impossible events were possible...

A man arrives at a desolate hotel, its eerie silence wrapping around him like a warning. As he wanders the dimly lit corridors, he finds no sign of life, only a lone, unattended meal waiting in the dining room, which he decides to eat. By nightfall, violent illness takes hold. In a desperate search for help, he staggers through the hotel’s darkness.

Marcin Kroll deserts from his military unit that’s headed to the training ground. Lieutenant Arek is sent after him, tasked with bringing Kroll back to the unit before an official investigation begins. The officers fear a scandal: the inquiry could expose the brutal conditions in the unit that drove several soldiers to suicide.

Henryk Greenberg is a Polish-born American who lost much of his family in the Holocaust. Certain of the location where his father and younger brother were murdered, Greenberg returns to find most of his former neighbors predictably claiming foggy memories at first; but soon their recollections come more easily.

Jack, an unappreciated American writer in his sixties, comes to the off-season peninsula of Hel in the north of Poland and isolates himself to write a script. He meets Kail, a local who earns money by making lie-detector tests. Jack doesn't find any inspiration until some tourists mysteriously disappear - one of them found dead with his tongue cut off. Kail, persuaded by his friend Mila that Jack is the murderer, begins an investigation. The truth turns out to be more twisted when he discovers that Jack is writing about him.

In this setting, an accident happens in the city of Lodz. They say a blue crystal fell from the sky and killed a homeless man. Miłosz and Tomek, two random guys, find the body and the rock.
