Later, Zalman reinvented himself as Shoshi, Israel's first transgender celebrity, who was both revered and feared. Their path also led to Berlin: a divided city where Holocaust survivors reopened bars, brothels, and peep shows, and where Israeli trans women found both refuge and danger.
