JW is serving hard time in prison and struggling to get back on an honest path. This all proves to be an illusion. On leave from prison, and back in contact with his former gang, JW learns that once you've walked in the shoes of a criminal there just may be no going back.

Diller and Kessel, two hardened Hamburg investigators, learn that their "old buddy" Mohammed is planning to rob a bank with his buddies. Kessel is a customer there, of all places. Kessel is divorced because of previous drug problems, but has resolved to win Claire and the children back and has therefore been clean for months. Despite Kessel's warning to the branch manager, the gangsters carry out their plan and take a hostage who happens to be there: Kessel's daughter Ruby, who suffers from epilepsy.

However, this is more than Franz can bear: he feels powerless and increasingly isolates himself. When he then decides to steal secret documents for a later defection to the West, this results in an unfortunate chain reaction leading to his arrest and ultimately to his execution...
