Elvira Ruiz, a graduate in medicine, is aimed at a village inhabited by rude and stubborn people who don´t understand that a woman can exercise this profession. Due to their ancestral backwardness, the village people have trouble telling their problems to a female, so she must use unorthodox methods to accomplish their task.

Marisa Salinas gets her first job at one of the top publishing companies of her country. Don Ricardo Arencibia, her boss, is a man who does not appreciate innovation and new proposals from the staff, but enjoys bloody crime stories, and beautiful women. Don Ricardo invites Marisa out for dinner; they start behind friends and, soon, they start a sexual relationship. All goes well - safe for a little mystery that envelops Ricardo's ex-wife. Marisa decides to investigate... and she will uncover much more than she expected: Ricardo had been trying to make Marisa look like his former wife, and there is a plot involving large scale corruption.

Although the title (which translates as "Murders in Chicago") promises a gangster story, this is more of a murder mystery that kicks off with the seemingly accidental death of a construction worker, followed shortly after by that of a noted publisher (an uneasy-looking Eduardo Fajardo). What follows is a very confusing story in which the police, a police coroner (José Campos) and a vagrant (Fernando Sánchez Polack) who witnessed Fajardo's death embark on separate inquests on what actually happened. Meanwhile, June (María Luisa Rubio), who works as a secretary for the publishing company, is under pressure by a blackmailer (Antonio Jiménez Escribano) who has pictures of her in the sack with the deceased publisher.
