On a hot summer day in Oslo, the dead mysteriously awaken, and three families are thrown into chaos when their deceased loved ones come back to them. Who are they, and what do they want?

Ambulance driver Joe loses his job when self-driving vehicles take over. He's then absorbed into a government system under which people without work are assigned mandatory tasks to prevent them from becoming too passive. Joe’s problem is that his own assignment appears to have vanished somewhere inside the machinery of the system. His attempt to discover his purpose propels him through a succession of increasingly strange encounters, as his search for purpose becomes entangled with his desire for love, friendship and some kind of place in the world.

After an argument, best friends Jasmine and Iben loose the sight of each other at the beach. Jasmine meets up with the girls. Iben hooks up with Jonas, the boy she is crazy about. Later on, the seemingly shy boy Oscar has an unpleasant run in with Iben. When both of them are left behind by their friends, one of them makes a friendly gesture and they soon realise that they are dealing with similar issues. The summer night doesn’t turn out like they had expected but leads to an experience that might be the beginning of an unexpected relationship.

30-year-old Ola lives in the small Norwegian village of Vidaråsen, where the 150 residents are a fine mix of people with and without disabilities. A community living a slow-paced life in harmony with nature and values such as empathy, respect and interdependence. Ola, who has an intellectual disability, spends his days in the village, working in the workshop, pulling carrots from the ground and chatting for hours with his best friend, Lasse, who lives in the village. The conversations and cordial friendship are a highlight of Ola's daily life, but in the background, there's always the threat of Lasse getting fed up with his work or moving back to Denmark.
