On an unnamed island off an unnamed coast, things have begun to disappear: at first little things: ribbons and then roses. Soon, photographs. However, a rare few are able to remember all that no longer exists – but the Memory Police are determined to make sure that what has been erased, remains forgotten forever. When a young novelist realizes her book editor is one of those able to still remember, she hides him in a room beneath her floorboards. As the world closes in around them, they struggle defiantly to hold onto the truth.

Hilarious and outgoing, Brittany Forgler, is everybody’s best friend ― except her own. Her partying, underemployment and toxic relationships are catching up with her. She receives a startling wake-up call when a visit to the doctor reveals how unhealthy she is. Grieving photographer Lu Rile moves into a run-down artists' warehouse in 1990s Brooklyn, where she befriends Katherine, an accomplished painter who lives downstairs. When Katherine suffers her own tragic loss, Lu unknowingly captures the incident in one of her self-portraits, creating a sublime but terrifying image. Consumed with their mutual grief and intensifying relationship, the women discover that they are haunted by a demonic force intent on shaking their reality.

Dr. Paul Proteus, an up-and-coming executive at the Federal Apparatus Corporation, finds his life imploding – or perhaps he’s just beginning to see things clearly.
