A detective in Toyama is forced to confront his painful past when he takes on a murder case involving his two estranged childhood friends.

Yasuo (Hiroshi Abe) grew up as an orphan. He married a woman he loved and they had a son Akira (later played by Takumi Kitamura). Yasuo's life seemed great at the time, but his life totally changed after his wife died in accident. In the turbulent last days of the Edo period, Kawai Tsugunosuke, a Japanese samurai serving the Makino clan of Nagaoka, dreamt of independence from the restraints of vassalship. Teaming up with the class troublemaker, Yuishi embarks on a self-righteous crusade and finds himself in a precocious love triangle. Their antics soon spiral into unintended consequences, forcing the trio to confront hard truths.
