A chemist named Aratus invents a concoction that will turn creatures to stone, but only realizes the dangers of his creation when his wife falls victim to it.

George Petit, the son of a bank cashier is a heavy gambler. After losing a significant amount of money at cards, he becomes desperate to recover his losses. In an act of poor judgment, George takes money and bonds that his father had been checking at the bank, only to lose those funds to the gamblers as well.

James Fairfax, editor of the scandalous Morning Argus, stops at nothing for a juicy story, much to the disdain of his staff—especially reporter Dolly Clare.

Richard Golden, a wealthy shirtwaist manufacturer, has an only son, a little boy, who yearns for a sister and continually begs his father to bring him a little sister to be a playmate to him, and the father, to satisfy the child's persistent pleading, goes to the orphan home and brings home the other little twin sister. Years roll by and both girls have grown to young womanhood in their different stations in life. Jack Golden, now grown to manhood, and knowing that the girl is only a foster sister, asks her to become his wife.

A spirited young college graduate is sent away to the Kentucky mountains to live with her uncle after returning home and scorning the effete minister her parents had chosen for her husband. One day, finding herself lost in the wilderness, she is rescued by two brothers who fall in love with her—but as they compete for her affections with increasing ferocity, her feelings become conflicted. Buck and Jeff, cousins, are the last two males left in the McCall clan to continue the feud between the McCalls and the Buckners. Jeff falls in love with Almyry Buckner, daughter of old Simon Buckner. Buck McCall, having been in hiding from the sheriff before young Jeff met Almyry, finally returns to the old home and learns of Jeff's marriage. He meets a pretty little child, who says she is Honey Bee McCall. He takes a great liking to her. Through the untiring efforts of Preachin' Dan, the feud is dropped and a general reconciliation follows.

David Graham has become so absorbed in his work that he seems to have no time for his wife, Amy, and she has been having fun with Captain Guy Bracebury. Things continue this way for a while, until Dr. Meredith, the Grahams' family doctor, finds out about all this.

Dolly’s father disapproves of her boyfriend Ben, thinking he is only interested in athletics and not being able to provide for his daughter. Ben heads to the seashore to find work. Dolly convinces her father he isn’t feeling well and needs to get away to the beach. Once there she’s reunited with Ben much to her father’s chagrin but when he thinks Dolly is drowning and Ben saves her, he softens towards the lad.

During a fashionable country house party, a guest suggests that everyone visit a nearby gypsy camp to have their fortunes told. Jack Harlow, the hostess's son, meets Draga, the gypsy chief's daughter, and immediately falls in love with her. Draga is also attracted to Jack, who persuades her to meet him secretly. Their secret meetings continue, and eventually, Jack convinces Draga to run away with him, despite the significant social divide and the disapproval their relationship would surely face from his family and her community. The plot centers on this forbidden romance and the ensuing dramatic conflict between their two vastly different worlds.
