In the 1850's, a young boy and his family on their way West become stranded in the Rockies. With the help of a local mountain man, a Sioux medicine man, and a legendary bear known as "Walking Thunder," the boy learns to become a man, and his family's survival is secured.

After his mother dies, twelve-year-old Seth George moves to his grandparents' farm. His grumpy grandfather Murdock harbors a grudge against Seth's Native American father, who died when Seth was a baby, and passes this grudge on to him. Seth's grandmother was fond of him, but she soon passes away. Seth struggles with his grandfather's harshness while trying to win the heart of the charming Annie Jacobs.

Tomboy and farmgirl Charlene "Charley" Wilson finds fun and adventure with her beloved dog Fuzz and tries to fit in to her small town, while her parents struggle with money and crop production worries.

Three children are kidnapped and taken to the forest by escaped convicts. There they escape but are pursued by the convicts. Forest rangers and police set out to rescue them.

Winslow the bear isn't like the other bears. Instead of hibernating this winter like the rest of his kind, he decides to ask each of his animal friends what Christmas is all about.
