Days Off is a short film, an homage to the puppet and city. By combining puppet animation and live action it builds a certain strange kind of reality, a reality that is based in the real world. It is an audiovisual testimony using the language of surrealism, satire, parody, irony and gallows humor, a dark mirror reflecting today’s world.

Alcohol, national costumes, dance, as well as confrontation with unpleasant truths – that is what lies ahead for a young girl named Eliška, who gets stuck in a mysterious pub. She has to find an answer to whether everything ends with death or, rather, it is only the beginning.

A film journey through places near and far, real and dreamy, on the border between reality and fiction, where it is possible to learn how close the realm of the invisible lies and to contemplate whether it is possible to approach the invisible through film. Guides on this journey are various explorers who present their elusive experiences with researching and capturing imprints of the invisible – former filmmakers, a forgotten film movement, a local history expert, a mountaineer, a professor, and the director, Lea Petříková, herself. But the more they reveal, the more complicated it gets.
