A comedy about taxi driver Bengt, who finds himself in trouble when he is unable to repay a loan to loan shark Kurt. At the same time, researcher Johan receives an urgent assignment from his professor, which is complicated by the fact that he unexpectedly has to take care of Bengt's daughter Pia. Their lives become intertwined in a series of comical and dramatic events that take place in the same apartment building.
