Latvia. The end of the 19th century. In a corner of a parish on the shore of a lake, two families live side by side. The Dievlodziņi and the Vilkači. With a long-standing hatred in their relations. True, the manifestations of hatred are felt only in the Dievlodziņi homes. How could it not! They are increasingly unlucky, diseases and livestock diseases strike, and the crops do not yield. In contrast, in the Vilkači, everything grows in a whirlwind, and diseases also continue to take a detour. This leads us to think that the Vilkači family achieves its prosperity by pestering and practicing witchcraft. Over time, they have also managed to turn the other people of the parish against them. However, the essence is completely different. The Vilkači people, being Christians, have not forgotten the ancient traditions and customs of the Latvian people, which are rooted in human life, not separating themselves from nature.

Many adventures befell a beautiful dog named Michael. He was stolen and sold many times, he lived with both kind and cruel owners, and even performed in the circus arena. And so, during his difficult wanderings, Michael falls into the hands of a lonely sailor, Doug, who, at the risk of losing his job, takes the dog with him.

A story of love, jealousy and betrayal. But always, even under fatal circumstances, nobility will find its way to the light. Gertrude, a former governess, marries the count and cheats on him. She has long been in love with the count's business manager and hopes to marry him eventually. But her stepdaughter is growing up...

Forty years ago, she went with her beloved to his home in Germany. Now she is back in her native land, but as a visitor. The paths to her childhood home, which no longer exists, are overgrown. The paths that lead to the hearts of loved ones are overgrown. Even her daughter's soul. She grew up without Velta's closeness. In 1949, the little girl, who was staying with Velta's sister, was taken with her family to Siberia. Broken lives, broken destinies.

Three friends dream of purchasing St. Bernard puppies. But obstacles arise along their path, which require resourcefulness and ingenuity to overcome...
