‘Sink’ tells the story of Rachel, a Mozambican domestic worker based in Johannesburg, who is forced to make a devastating choice after her daughter drowns whilst under the care of her employer; return to poverty stricken Mozambique or continue working for the family responsible for the death of her child so she can support her extended family back home. The story is a haunting exploration of motherhood, loss and the walls that separate people.

Southern Africa, 1880. A mixed-race woman living in the arid Karoo takes in a lost white child and raises him as her own. Nine years later, he is forced to live in the Knysna Forest with a group of woodpeckers that claim to be his family.

Daryn Miller is a cry-baby wimp, who still carries his baby fat. He isn’t a cunning businessman like his granddad, who opened a fitness club in a Johannesburg suburb 60 years ago. And, he’s definitely not a winner like his father who – as a successful bodybuilder – helped the business flourish. Under Daryn’s management, debts rise and membership decreases. On top of that, he finds a hostile competitor in Stars Fitness, a chain run by a dyed-in-the-wool career woman, who prefers to destroy her competitors instead of out-compete them.

Contemporary South Africa. An aging Khoekhoe matriarch invites her granddaughter to participate in the riel dance.

A young father seeks to atone for the rape that he committed in university by reaching out to apologize to the woman he assaulted.

South Africa, present day. A god-fearing woman finds herself in a transactional relationship as she tries to support her sick husband and daughter.
