Each of the short stories is based on either one or several stories by a wonderful Russian writer. The heroes are ordinary people “of the people”, contemporaries of Shukshin, all of whose life’s ups and downs are inextricably linked with their country - the Soviet Union of the 60s-70s. The main thing that unites both the works themselves and the films made is a whole gallery of the brightest images and characters, a story about such different destinies and differently meaningful lives, a story in the center of which is invariably Man, with his love, quests, weaknesses and victories.

In Imperial Russia, Anna, wife of the officer Karenin, goes to Moscow to visit her brother. On the way, she meets charming cavalry officer Vronsky, to whom she's immediately attracted. But in St. Petersburg’s high society, a relationship like this could destroy a woman’s reputation.

Due to weather conditions, the plane lands in one of the cities of Ugra, and thanks to an incredible coincidence, Nastya ends up in Santa Claus's hut. Now the real fairy tale begins... Acquaintance with wizards, reassessment of life values, fulfillment of the fourth wish - all this awaits not only the main character, but also many viewers.

The movie tells the story of Franz, a Waffen-SS soldier who deserts, and Polina, a Belarusian woman whose village is razed and people massacred.

The heroine, a lonely woman, falls in love with a young businessman very similar to a childhood friend. Everything separates them, the age difference, the social position and this creates a multitude of obstacles, sad or ridiculous, to the realization of their aspirations. But how to imagine that this man, who was trying at the beginning to get rid of an intruder, comes to a declaration of love accompanied by flowers.

Follows the present and past, and in a surreal environment where the motifs of Kazakov’s stories intersect. The hero can easily meet with Stalin or drink vodka with a homeless person in the basement.

After the murder of Krymov, Alika was sentenced to prison. In prison, she falls into the hands of a fragment of the novel "Anna Karenina". By pure chance, a director comes to the colony to select the heroines for the film of the same name, and Alika is trusted to play one of the roles...20 years have passed. Now Alika is a popular actress, she has a daughter. In a new life, psychological and criminal circumstances are again intertwined.
