Péter and Pál, two notorious skirt hunters competing in wooing Oana, a pretty Romanian girl on the beach at Tihany. A couple of days later the girl gets a telegram saying that she has to leave for Bucharest immediately. The party - which has increased with Piri, the interpreter, and Ági, the hitch-hiker - gets to a Romanian village by Peter's ramshackle car, a 1921 Colymne. The car, however, breaks down.

Georgie, a young talented and respected doctor, leaves his job at a hospital in the capital and goes to work in a remote fishing village. Georgie has a hard time in the new place, where the fishermen prefer the witch doctor to the doctor. Boredom and unsettled life irritate his wife Irina, and she returns to the city. After some time, when Georgie managed to defeat the distrust of the fishermen, win their respect and love, he persuaded Irina to return. During a noisy and merry celebration, Irina carelessly climbed a precipitous bank and fell to her death.

Based on true events. In the Romanian town of Lupeni August 5, 1929, driven to despair by hard labor conditions miners under the leadership of Communists organized a strike. The miners demanded higher wages and an eight-hour workday. They opposed the government's attempts to shift the entire burden of the economic crisis onto the workers' shoulders. The government, concerned about the scale of the strike and the workers' determination not to give in to their demands, ordered troops to shoot at unarmed people. On August 7, the strike was brutally suppressed. Many workers were killed. But these events have forever gone down in the history of the Romanian labor movement as an example of solidarity, heroism and invincibility of the people.
