Bacurau, a small town in the Brazilian sertão, mourns the loss of its matriarch, Carmelita, who lived to be 94. Days later, its inhabitants notice that their community has vanished from most maps.

On March 1, 1982, the city of Niterói enters history and hosts one of the most important cultural movements: a so-called Rock 80 Generation. Radio Fluminense FM, known as “A Maldita”, goes on the air, mixing irreverence, daring and creativity with its programming aimed at music that lacks commercial space. In the hinterlands of Brazil, young girls navigate the delicate transition from childhood to adolescence while grappling with social media, religion, their dreams, and the stories of the women who came before them. By inventing a time machine, they revisit the pasts of their mothers and grandmothers and imagine a future in which they can be free, fulfilled, and in control of their own choices.

Iremar works at the rodeo in North East of Brazil. From his home, the truck he uses to transport the animals, he dreams of a future in the region's booming clothing industry.

Two tales of migration. In the first, after a tailings dam disaster floods her hometown, rural worker Joana (55) moves to São Paulo to find her sister Tania, who lives with her grandson Jaime. The couple suffer a shock of reality when facing the harshness of rural life. The contact with the abandoned house reveals to Flavia unknown aspects of her father. She begins to suspect that there is something supernatural in the woods.

Isolated on the beach, the powerful business woman Frederica prepares an awaited New Year`s party. In the middle of a marriage crisis with photographer Constantin, which affects directly her teenage daughter, she has to manage her life and the career of pop icon Lenny, who decided to write a mysterious work alongside writer João Wommer. When a strange creature appears from the bottom of the sea, the crisis takes place in the web of affections, and Frederica will have to face her biggest fear: loss.

Malu — a mercurial, unemployed actress living with her conservative mother in a precarious house in a Rio de Janeiro slum — tries to deal with her strained relationship with her own adult daughter while surviving on memories of her glorious artistic past.

Inspired by the US paper “Gay Sunshine”, in April of 1978 appeared in Brazil – during the dictatorship – the newspaper “O Lampião”, depicting the point of view of gays on various issues, including sexuality. A group of journalists and writers from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo joined the project, fueling a publication that paved the way for the press at the time, addressing controversial issues at the period, such as racism, abortion, drugs and prostitution.

Gilberto and Jacira promised to grow old together – for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health. Till death them do part.
