The story of an orphaned girl brought up by the Storlein family. Young Anne (Asta Nielsen) is brought as an infant to the Storlein farm by her mother, who has been traveling and is in need of a rest. The two are turned away at the door, and the mother takes her young daughter to the barn to sleep. The farmhand Jon discovers them in the morning but the mother has not made it through the night, so young Anne is taken in and raised by the family.

Young Tone's uncle gets the much poorer young man Tellef sent out to sea after they fall in love. They pledge to never marry anyone else, but one day Tellef recieves a letter saying Tone is soon to marry the police chief.

Eilert is afraid of women. His friend Lagesen is not, quite the opposite. To help his shy friend, he takes him to a mountain hotel during Easter. There they meet Ingrid, a beautiful girl with whom they both fall in love.

Ambros Fornes owns two large farms and stunning four horses. These horses comes to fill his life because his young beautiful wife, Lisle, does not manage to love him as he loves her.

We follow the Akerselva from Puttmyrene where it starts, through Nordmarka, Maridalen, Sagene, Grünerløkka and all the way down to the outlet in the Oslofjord. // Oslofilm was a series of public information films about life in and around Oslo, produced between 1940 and 1980. Funded by the state, the films offer valuable insight into postwar Norwegian society. A wide range of Norwegian filmmakers contributed to the productions, resulting in a rich variety of styles and expressions. Several of the films also possess notable cinematic qualities, standing out as more than just informational material. The Oslofilms represent a unique and important chapter in Norwegian film history.
