A young woman's struggle to overcome life's economic restrictions in order to meet her true will. She is twenty-three and lives with her mother, a compromise she can no longer stand. Despite her meager economic means, only enough to survive the first two months, she moves out and rents a 45m2 apartment of her own. During these two months of freedom, she explores her true self and approaches a more poetic and liberal culture, for her, a new way of life that slowly unfolds as she rummages through the belongings that the former renter, a guy her age, has left in the apartment.

Priya, Anjali, and Jojo are three young ladies who have just been admitted in a girls' hostel. They are to share their room as well as a fourth lady named Kiran. To their surprise, Kiran turns out to be a boy. Starry-eyed Anjali had been to a fortune-teller, who had foretold that she would meet a young man by the name of Amar, while in this hostel. Jojo and Priya have their own dream men. Only time will tell if their sweethearts really do come forth.

From this unique perspective, Illusion could easily be perceived as a film noir. At the same time, it’s a film about contemporary credit crunch societies and their effect on relationships and attitudes, imposing a new moral order where love and friendship are tested, redefined and demystified.
