BBC Bargain Hunt's Charlie Ross takes a detailed look around the Late Sir William McAlpine's full-size railway and museum, built in his own back yard. Having been acquired over five decades, Sir William's collection is truly massive. The film starts at the beginning of the year when the ex-BR class 03 diesel shunter is started up. There's a lot of steam action too, with the resident 0-6-0 saddle tank engine, seen charging up and down the incredible 1 in 14 gradient of the hill line on training and public open days. Charlie takes a look around the extensive museum, containing a myriad of railway artefacts. He's shown inside the two royal coaches, the signal boxes, the O gauge model railways and the main station building, re-erected here from Somersham in Cambridgeshire. Sir William's widow, Lady Judy McAlpine tells us about her late husband's insatiable enthusiasm. There's so much to see and appreciate in this unique private railway.

The West Highland line between Crianlarich and Fort William is one of the most beautiful and inhospitable sections of railway in Great Britain. The latest Issue of our Video Track Annual exploring a range of motive power subjects from 2023

Well known S&D historian Mike Arlett, recreated this much loved railway using archive film along with coverage of the events of Spring 2016. Includes the ‘S&D 50 Gala’ at Midsomer Norton featuring Jinty 47406 plus archive film of the area in the 1960s. Mike also takes a look at the S&D using archive film from the 1960s. The West Somerset’s major Spring Gala is shown featuring 34053, 44422, 92214, 48624, 80072, 34070, 53808 and 53809 with passenger and freight throughout the line. In addition, more archive film shows the motive power scene on the Somerset & Dorset.

Class 37 Finale with action from South Wales with the Green and Large Logo liveried examples, from Scotland, from the South East and throughout the network on passenger and freight duties. Includes 37s on freight traffic around the network. Class 47s on special trains and freight traffic featuring locos from a number of operators. This programme was made in 1992, and provides a record of the much loved Class 50s on their final workings from Waterloo and Paddington. Produced on Broadcast equipment, it includes many of the well known locations on the Southern’s main line to the West Country – Honiton Bank, Exeter Central, Yeovil, Salisbury and Basingstoke. It also includes the last specials worked by the Class 50s in 1992, including specials to Wales plus the final trains on timetabled workings.

The Class 50s were the last passenger diesels built for British Rail and since their introduction in 1967 they have worked express services on three different regions. This programme takes a look back over the years to see the class hard at work on BR and also documents the survivors that made it into preservation plus the 1994 Farewell Railtours.
