During the Winter War three Soviet soldiers perform a risky recon mission.

In one of the regions of Latvia occupied by the Nazis, the Germans arrest a peasant boy named Janis. His first escape ends in another arrest. This time, he is detained by his younger brother, who has become a policeman. After his next escape, his wife Ilga and daughter are sent to a concentration camp. Now Janis is ready to do anything to save them.

The collection consists of five short stories: "The Meeting," "One of Many," "At the Old Nanny's," "One Hundred for One," and "The Incident at the Telegraph Office."

Many years ago, Ivan Petrov, the director of a major transportation company, left for work one morning and never returned. Today, his son, young hipster Vasily, who has just enrolled at Moscow State University, sets out on a long journey across Moscow to the company’s headquarters to uncover the fate of his father.
