House of the Dead is a German-Canadian action horror film series directed by Uwe Boll, based on Sega's The House of the Dead video game franchise. Not a direct adaptation of the individual entries, Boll described the first film as a prequel to the original 1997 game. A direct-to-video sequel was released in 2006. A new installment, 23 Years Later: Return to Zombie Island, was announced in 2025 as a direct sequel to the 2003 film, with an intended release in 2026.
On an island off the coast, a techno rave party attracts a diverse group of college coeds and a Coast Guard officer. Soon, they discover that their X-laced escapades are to be interrupted by zombies and monsters that attack them on the ground, from the air, and in the sea, ruled by an evil entity.
At Guesta Verde University, deranged Professor Curien is trying to revive the dead, killing students for the experiment. As such, there's an outbreak of zombies, and the government sends a NSA medical research team, formed by Dr. Alexandra 'Nightingale' Morgan and Lt. Ellis, with a special force leaded by Lt. Dalton, trying to get the zero sample from the first generation zombie. The team has little time to accomplish and depart before missiles are sent to destroy the area.
A father haunted by the first outbreak must face his past as his influencer daughter and friends party near the same cursed island, encountering evolved, sarcastic zombies.
