Directing

Biography
Angela Barnes is an Atlanta-based television director and writer whose career began behind the scenes as an assistant director. She is an alumna of the Directors Guild of America's Assistant Director Training Program and further honed her craft through the ABC/Disney Directing Fellowship, the Fox Global Director Initiative, and the Fox Comedy Apprentice Program. After gaining experience in support roles, she earned her first break into episodic directing with the series Eve, eventually expanding her portfolio to include high-profile shows across multiple networks. Among her credits are acclaimed episodes of Atlanta, Loot, Mythic Quest, Blindspotting, Teenage Bounty Hunters, and One Day at a Time. Barnes is known for her sharp wit, thoughtful storytelling, and strong visual sensibility. She directed a viral 2020 voting PSA titled "Get Your Booty to the Poll," which she conceived, produced, and directed, earning widespread attention for its impact. Beyond television drama and comedy, she has also ventured into commercial directing, signing with Hungry Man Productions in October 2024. Under that banner, she directed campaigns, including an Old Spice spot through Wieden + Kennedy and a PSA featuring Vice President Kamala Harris. Marvel Studios tapped Barnes to direct the back end (3 episodes) of the Disney+ series Ironheart (2025). In recognition of her work, Barnes received the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Directing in an Episode of a Comedy Series for an episode of Atlanta. Having participated in DGA events, she frequently speaks on topics such as manifestation and inclusivity in television, advocating for a mindful, values-driven approach to storytelling and production.
