He retaliates by returning the key of the door between their rooms. After a furious scene he departs for Vienna with the Countess. The Queen secretly follows with her aide-de-camp. in the train they encounter sonic officers, and the Queen not only dances, but at Vienna goes to the Arts Ball, where her husband awaits the Countess. Though masked, he recognizes her, and reconciliation ensues.

The film, also known as Das Gespenst im Opernhaus, is notable for being the first film adaptation of the 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. The film is now believed to be a lost film. No copies, photographs or even a poster of the film remain. All that is known is that it was made in Germany in autumn 1915, directed by Ernst Matray, starring Nils Chrisander as the Phantom and Aud Egede-Nissen as Christine, and Raul played by director Ernst Matray.[1]

It was one of a cycle of operetta films made during the early sound era. A French-language version, Venetian Nights (Nuits de Venise), also directed by Wiene, was released the same year.
